The Art of Everlasting Florals: 7 Secrets to Styling & Care.
At Aluma Home
We believe flowers shouldn't just be a fleeting luxury. Our hand-arranged sets are designed to bring a permanent sense of nature into your home. While our blooms are "eternal" by nature, a little bit of expert care goes a long way in preserving their soul and vibrancy.
If you want your arrangement to look as striking in two years as it does today, follow our signature care philosophy.
Dried vs. Preserved: What’s the difference?
We use a blend of both to create our signature look. Dried stems are classic—dehydrated naturally to create that rustic, architectural texture.
Preserved stems (like our roses) are harvested at their peak and treated with a plant-based bio-liquid. This replaces the sap, keeping the petals feeling supple and "alive" without ever needing a drop of water.
1. Set the Stage
Before you unwrap your stems, choose their "forever home." Dried flowers thrive on stability. Because they become more brittle over time, frequent moving can cause delicate petals to shed. Pick a spot—a mantel, a bedside table, or a shelving unit—and let them settle in.
2. Humidity is the Enemy
Think of your dried flowers like a favorite old book; they hate dampness. To prevent stems from softening or losing their shape, keep them out of "steam zones" like unventilated bathrooms or laundry rooms. A dry, airy environment is their best friend.
3. Seek the Shade
While a sun-drenched room looks beautiful, direct UV rays will act as a natural bleach on your flowers. To keep the deep, rich tones of The Crimson Eternal from fading into a dusty pink, style them in a spot that enjoys indirect light rather than a direct window sill.
4. Forget the Watering Can
It’s the most common mistake! Your flowers have already completed their life cycle and no longer need hydration. Water will actually cause the stems to rot and the preserved dyes to run. Keep the vase bone-dry and your flowers will thank you.
5. The "Cool Air" Refresh
Dust is the only thing that might dull your flowers' shine over time. Every few months, give them a "spa day." Use a hairdryer on the coolest, lowest setting from about 30cm away. This gently whisks away dust without disturbing the delicate arrangement.
6. Vase Maintenance
If you are using a glass vase, check it occasionally for "vase sweat" (condensation). If the air gets humid, moisture can trap at the bottom of the vase. Simply take the stems out once a season, wipe the interior with a microfiber cloth, and pop them back in.
7. Look, Don't Touch
We know they look soft, but the oils on our hands can break down the preserved coatings over time. Keep your arrangement out of reach of high-traffic areas, curious pets, and little hands. They are pieces of art—best enjoyed with the eyes!
